Autumn Favourites: Beauty, Music, Books etc.

Hi everyone – I hope you’re all doing well.

Just before we step into December, I wanted to share with you my Autumn Favourites. I’m including a mixture of skincare products, music, books and more.

Like most people, my skin gets drier and more dull when the weather gets a bit colder. And if you didn’t know, I love creams, lotions, potions and anything moisturising really. In the last few months I’ve rediscovered my love for cocoa butter from The Body Shop and Palmer’s. And I’ve added a new exfoliating product to my collection, the Dirty Works “Buff Your Stuff” body scrub, which smells delicious.

I haven’t talked about my nails on here in a while! (For more nail updates you can check my instagram @wunms). At the moment my natural nails are quite short and I’m trying to grow them out again. So in the meantime I’ve got SNS nails on. SNS which is short for Signature Nail System, is a great alternative to wearing acrylics. They look really natural, the nail polish powders come in so many different colours and its 100% chip resistant. I can usually make my SNS nails last around 3 weeks before I need an infill/to get them redone.

(*Update* Since writing this post, I’ve switched back to my natural nails. Still short, but a nice autumnal deep purple gel colour which I can’t stop staring at).

The next thing I’ve been loving are these three lipsticks: MAC Film Noir, Primark PS Love Matte Lipstick and Primark PS Love Lipstick in “Toffee”…

My boyfriend bought me Film Noir as a late birthday present (little backstory: he wanted to buy me a MAC foundation in NC50 but he bought NC15 by accident – they are world’s apart in colour… so I decided to swap it for a lipstick instead). Film Noir is the perfect rich deep brown shade with a hint of purple.

A few months back, I was in Primark picking up some basics and the makeup section caught my eye. I have to say Primark has really stepped up their cosmetic game since the last time I had a look. They basically sell a full line of makeup from base products to eyeshadows, lipsticks and makeup application tools. Needless to say their base products didn’t appeal to me as there was nothing dark enough/in my shade, but I am really impressed with their lip products. Primark PS Love Matte Lipstick (sorry, I don’t know the specific name of it, it’s either rubbed off or unnamed?!) is of course a matte formula and really comfortable for long wear because it isn’t drying. It also has a nice vanilla smell, which I like because I hate when cosmetic products smell like plastic or chemicals or something weird. Primark PS Love Lipstick in “Toffee” has a nice buttery consistency, it’s definitely not suitable for long wear but I love it for when I want to do a simple nude lip.

I have also rediscovered my passion for Christian music this autumn and praise God for that. Hmm.. I may go into more detail about my convictions with music recently and what I’ve been listening to in a future blog post.

But the three songs I’ve had on constant repeat are Jordan Armstrong – Bless Up, Dae-Lee – Ur Beautiful featuring Travis Greene and Uncle Reece – Until I Pass Out.

Bless Up is about thanking God for your blessings and acknowledging that He is the reason for everything we accomplish in this life. Ur Beautiful is a refreshing ode to women, adoring us and highlighting the importance of seeing yourself the way God sees you (Psalm 139:14). And finally Until I Pass Out is about worshipping with your whole heart, unashamedly going crazy for Christ!

I’ve made so much use of out this notebook since September. I originally intended for it to be just for networking notes but it has spiralled into my life notes. I take it with me everywhere now (hence why it’s a little beaten up lol) – it’s a staple in my bag. Thanks for the graduation present Margaret!

I also re-read Americanah for a book club last month as most of you will know by now. It’s one of those books that you really must read at least once in your lifetime and that’s all I’m going to say… #NoSpoilers.

I am obsessed with my new autumn/winter coat. It took forever to find the perfect one for me but we got there in the end. The problem was I wanted a coat made from a wooly material, but I also wanted a hood and for it to be knee length. So as you can imagine, that’s quite a strict criteria and most of the coats I kept coming across would tick 2 out of 3 of those boxes at best (usually it wouldn’t have a hood).

This beauty was hiding on ASOS all along and it is exactly what I’ve been searching for. I hope it lasts forever to be honest, it wasn’t cheap!

I have a few favourite scriptures for autumn, most of them are to do with dealing with anxiety but I know someone else out there needs to read this right now:

  • “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” – Matthew 6:27 (I recommend reading from verses 25 through to 37)
  • “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you” – 1 Peter 5:7 (This scripture features at the bottom of my blog homepage!)
  •  “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” – Philippians 4:6-7
  • Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you” – Matthew 5:11-12

And that’s everything! Let me know what you’ve been enjoying doing or using in autumn in the comments below.

God bless you!

  1. First of all, I enjoyed the read. Second of all, seeing this Palmer’s Cocoa Butter reminded me of a time I wanted to try it on my dry and ‘problematic’ skin and one of my very dark friends said it was for very dark people so I never really got to use it . . . lastly, I loooove that notebook!
